We read the subsurface through seismic waves and electric currents.
Geophysical analysis is essential to assess the vulnerability of a structure: seismic classification of the subsoil, resonance frequencies of soils and seismic microzonation of the territory.
Using MASW array seismic profiles (Multichannel Analysis of Surface Waves), single-station HVSR measurements (Horizontal to Vertical Spectral Ratio), seismic tomography and Down-Hole borehole tests, we study the structure of the ground by analysing seismic wave travel times and velocities.
Electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) reconstructs how resistivity is distributed in the subsurface: valuable data for locating discontinuities, voids and lithological changes.
From the shear-wave velocity profile over the first 30 metres (Vs,eq) we determine the seismic subsoil category under the Italian Building Code (D.M. 17/01/2018, NTC 2018).
These parameters underpin local seismic response and seismic microzonation: they support land and emergency planning, post-earthquake reconstruction and seismic design.
